CrossFit Mendota Friends and Family,

I have had the literal time of my life sharing the past seven years with you. I have had the honor of witnessing many first-time muscle ups, seeing the swagger that comes from the confidence of PRing a workout, and watching relationships evolve from cheering one another on to ‘real life’ / outside the gym friendships.

I had a vision of what I hoped the CrossFit Mendota community would become when I started this gym in 2011. I wanted CFM to be a “third place” – the familiar place between home and work. A place where members achieve goals with the foundation of a proven training program coupled with the support of fellow members and the best coaching staff. I didn’t need CFM to be the most competitive or luxurious gym around; instead, I focused on building an accessible and supportive environment.

The challenge of running my own business and growing a community from scratch excited me. The long hours at the gym were fueled by my daily interactions with you, and I was continuously motivated by your dedication. Your support ventured far beyond my wildest imagination, and I will never forget the personal time and energy members invested into CFM. Into making my dream a reality. I am humbled each time I think of the way you have all contributed to this “third place”.

Slowly but surely, we grew. There were ups and downs, of course, but I learned immensely from each peak and valley. The coaches also evolved into a diverse group who continue to challenge one another to bring their A game to each and every class.

I have taken a bit of time over the last several months to reflect on my journey as a CrossFit gym owner. To see the forest from the trees, if you will. And what I found was a feeling of profound contentment. A “my job is done here” feeling. An “it’s time” feeling. Time for CFM to continue its growth with new leadership. Time for me to move into the #1 cheerleader role, and time for me to start a new journey. And that cheering role and new journey will begin now.

Travis Hanson has long had a dream to own and operate his own CrossFit gym, and will be your fearless leader taking you all to the next level. Travis seamlessly joined CrossFit Mendota in 2014, and within a very short period of time, it was as if he had been here all along. While stepping back from my official role at CFM is bittersweet in some ways, I am incredibly excited for Travis to be the new owner of CrossFit Mendota. His dedication and personal interest to the sport of CrossFit is unparalleled, and his ability to propel you all forward is without a question in my mind or, truly, in my heart.

I will be seeing you all over the next few weeks, but it will surely be less and less. Rest assured I will always be rooting for you. And don’t forget, it’s always CrossFit weather. 😉

Thank you for including me on your respective journeys. It has meant more than you know.
